A healthy workplace is a productive workplace. Yet many organizations struggle with how to best support mental health for their employees. With 30 years in business, I’ve overcome my own challenges with burnout and have seen firsthand how mental health challenges affect individuals and teams.
I became a certified facilitator for The Working Mind because I’m passionate about equipping others with the tools to thrive. This evidence-based program has been in development for over 10 years by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. It is the ideal way for individuals, teams and organizations to strengthen mental health resilience. Contact me to talk about whether it’s a fit for you or your organization.
Benefits of The Working Mind
Offering The Working Mind can help build stronger teams and kickstart communication around mental health. The Working Mind program is designed to:
✔ Boost self-awareness and understanding around mental health and reduce stigma.
✔ Reduce the cost of absenteeism, presenteeism, disability claims and turnover.
✔ Foster conversations about mental health by introducing a shared language so people can support each other in the workplace.
✔ Enhance resilience among employees with coping tools and strategies that can be used across the organization.
Why Is Mental Health Awareness Important?
Investing in employee mental health awareness is essential, as mental illness is the leading driver of workplace disability claim costs.
• Mental health challenges are everywhere – 1 in 5 working adults are dealing with a mental health challenge at any time. 1
• The cost of inaction is staggering – Globally, 12 billion workdays are lost annually due to depression and anxiety, costing businesses $1 trillion in lost productivity. 2
• Silence hurts workplace culture – 75% of employees are reluctant—or outright refuse—to disclose a mental health issue to their employer or co-workers. 3
• Psychological claims are costly – compensation paid for mental health conditions was more than 3 times greater than that of all physical injuries and illnesses. 4
